The City is Alive: The Future of Cultural Districts Storytelling Workshops

2022

The storytelling workshop is an opportunity to create the story of why your community needs permanent community based cultural spaces. The workshop entails 1.5 hour Level 1 to learn the basics of effective storytelling using the SAMS method (Story, Audience, Message, and Style), and followed by 1.5 hour Level II, during which professional storytellers/filmmakers will lead a small group of representatives from each organization through developing storyboards supporting your goal.

In small groups, your cultural district team will develop a narrative for a campaign to use to advocate for your space needs – whether that is procurement, maintenance, or activation of permanent space. You can use these narratives to make a video, or to inform a messaging campaign. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have in hand narrative concepts, storyteller/filmmaker contacts, and a network of fellow cultural districts and technical assistance providers.

Community Arts Stabilization Trust (CAST-SF) and Community Vision Capital & Consulting representatives will be on hand to introduce themselves and their respective organizations as resources for future capacity building.
